Growling at the News

Watching cartoons can be pretty boring. All the words are short and I already know what they mean. So I watch the news with my mother. But it can sound so scary that it makes me growl. Sometimes I even hide.

I do get to hear new words, though. I might even learn something. Here’s my list so far.

Grassroots: The part of grass that’s closest to the dirt.

For example, ‘Pull the weeds out at their grassroots.’

Underdog: Fleas that bite dog tummies.

Like this, ‘Keep the pests away from the underdog.’

Minority Leader: A small dog who leads bigger dogs.

There’s also a Majority Leader. I think it’s when a big dog leads smaller dogs.

Sitting President: What the president does when he quits talking. I haven’t seen that yet.

I think there’s a Standing President too.

Fake News. A story only some people believe.

More fake stories. Some people believe these too, even though they’re not true.

Balanced Budget: What you can balance on your nose.

Like this, ‘Watch me balance the budget before it falls off.’

Party: What people do when they have fun together.

I think there are two parties, one with red decorations and one with blue.

GOP: Growling Over Politics.

I hear GOP a lot. Personally, I think it means ‘Go Over to the Park.’

Electoral College: That must be where my mother went to school.

She says politics make her growl too.
